Internationally recognised bridal brand, House of Mooshki, is making waves in the fashion world with the aid of Sunderland graduate Grace Gatens.

Grace graduated from the University of Sunderland with a First Class Honours degree in Fashion Product and Promotion stating “this course equipped me with a wide range of useful skills ready for a career in design.” Since starting her Graduate Internship with the Seaham based company, Grace has been responsible for designing dresses, production management, preparing dresses to be shipped to stockists and dealing with stockist’s orders and enquiries.

With support from Victoria McCarthy, Managing Director and owner of House of Mooshki, as well as the skills developed whilst studying at the University of Sunderland, Grace is helping business expansion with the launch of a new line ‘Grace Philips’ featuring many dresses she designed herself. Her success is echoed in comments from Victoria McCarthy, “Grace not only has the skills and abilities to design her own work but she also manages the production schedule for every dress currently in production and has the potential to become the new production manager.”

Grace credits the support of the University’s Graduate Internship Team and the opportunity through the ERDF Graduate Internship Program for her current success. “I enjoy my job because each day is different! It isn’t a mundane office job where I am sat at a desk 24/7. It is very fast paced with deadlines to meet and new challenges everyday which I love!” Through the Internship at House of Mooshki, Grace has had the opportunity travel nationally and internationally visiting London, Milan and China with an upcoming trip to Barcelona and Verona in the new year for a Grace Philips photo shoot.

The Internships and Enterprise project is receiving up to £2,359,457 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
