The shortlists for Insider’s prestigious Made in the North East Awards have been released, with the cream of the region’s manufacturing industry battling it out across ten categories.
And local companies Kookaburra, from Peterlee, and the Autumn Brewing Company, based in Seaham, are nominated in the Food and Drink category.
The event recognises and rewards the excellence of those operating in the industry and aim to showcase manufacturers that are doing amazing work and producing world-class products in new and innovative ways.
It is the sixth year that Insider has held the awards in the North East, with all ten winners automatically entered into the national manufacturing final – Made in the UK Awards – which will be taking place in the summer 2018.
The Made in the North East Awards 2017 dinner, where the winners will be revealed, is being held on the evening of 19 October at Redworh Hall, Newton Aycliffe. This follows the daytime Durham Oktoberfest 2017, the North East’s premier engineering and manufacturing exhibition, which is taking place at the town’s Xcel Centre.
Philip Cunliffe, regional business editor at Insider, said: “This year’s shortlists contain many names that haven’t featured before but which I regard as the unsung heroes of the manufacturing sector in the region. We look forward to highlighting them on the night and showcasing the excellent work they do.”
“To reflect the strength of the manufacturing sector in the North East we have added three new categories this year.
“The Automotive Award and the Supply Chain Award are natural additions as they tap into the quality that exists around Nissan. The new Collaboration Award has been instigated to recognise successful manufacturing joint ventures in the region.
